I have a new story out in FIYAH Literary Magazine, my second story in this wonderful publication and my third short story to be published this month (Stories are like buses, eh?!) "Night of the Living Spa Weekend" is about lifelong friendship and the importance of self care, and it was so much fun to write. I'd been wanting to write something a bit cosier than my usual fare for a while, and the idea of a road-trip story featuring 40-something friends came to me on an actual spa weekend with my actual friends of over 30 years. It took us so long to arrange and, like the characters in this story, we ended up leaving so late we missed the first day of our spa. I'd also had the title, "Night of the Living SOMETHING UNEXPECTED" stuck in my head for a while, and the two just sort of came together when I started writing this.
And spoiler, but for the actual Spa Weekend entity itself, I channelled this building ... because if I can't work a Studio Ghibli aesthetic into what I write, then what even is the point, eh? You can purchase this issue here.
